Wakeboarding Tricks - Understanding the Terminology
Are you a beginner wakeboarder, or are you maybe thinking about getting started? In this case you will need to talk to others who are skilled, and of course you don't want to sound like a dummy! To get you started on learning, here are some very basic wakeboarding tricks and terms.
Air - This is one of the most important wakeboarding terms. When we talk about 'air', we're just saying how much air you got between yourself and the water. It means you went really high if someone tells you that you got 'big air', which is a good thing!
Bail - This term describes falling on your wakeboard.
Bindings - This is the rubber boots which are attached to the board that keeps you on the board.
Bone Out - This is a term for one of the wakeboarding tricks that means you're straightening your leg out. When you 'bone out grab,' you straighten your leg while you are grabbing.
Digger - This is something you want to avoid, as it means a 'bad wreck.'
Invert - This means that the rider has flipped upside down in the air!
Nose - The tip of the board that's closest to the wakeboarding boat is the nose.
Set - When you take turns on the wakeboard with other riders, each turn is called a 'set'. Set is just another way of saying 'turn' here.
These are just the very basic terms that you need to know in order to get started learning. Now when you try to talk to somebody who's already a pro at wakeboarding, you at least should have less communication problems! You may be a complete novice when it comes to wakeboarding, but you don't have to sound like one!
