Home Acne Treatments: Are The Simple Cures The Best Cures?

by Dan Wright

If paying a dermatologist and buying acne prescriptions is becoming cost-prohibitive, you need to think of other options. You might think about trying over-the-counter acne medications. Are these products safe? The proper use of over-the-counter acne drugs can help you treat your acne and you can easily avoid the negative outcomes that some people experience while trying to cure their acne problem.

These treatments are effective for many people and you can apply these at home. But, take note that these guidelines are only for mild acne problems and if you have a more complicated situation, you have to seek the help of a professional.

First, if washing does not seem to be very helpful for you, then it is high time for you to use benzoyl peroxide. This could be found at your local drug store in the form of face wash, bar soap, topical cream or gel. The thing you have to keep in mind with this product is that you must not over use it. Doing so may leave your skin super red or super dry.

It can take up to a couple of weeks for your results to become apparent. This can be frustrating when you are trying home remedies. Do not rush and use too much of an acne treatment product, as overuse can lead to far more damage to your skin.

Perhaps you are familiar with salicylic acid which is another treatment often used at home and common in facial wipes and pads. Salicyclic acid, if used properly, is an excellent tool to combat pimples and unclog your pores. When using salicyclic acid products, however, be careful, because improper use can do more harm to your skin than good.

These two treatments, benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, are very useful home acne treatments. But be very careful in your use of them. As they say: "A little goes a long way".

The Acne Help Page is an online knowledgebase covering everything related to acne. Here you can find information on the causes of acne to home acne treatments including salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. You can also read acne treatment results posted by actual site visitors and share your own.
