There has been a lot of attention given to adults, especially the ones who are older that have ringing ears. When people are older they have a lot more problems with the symptoms of tinnitus. However, it is becoming more known that there are a lot of children who also go through these symptoms.

Children may experience ringing in their ears but lack the vocabulary to explain the sensation to you. When children are born with tinnitus or develop it at very young ages, they are unable to talk at all. By the time they can talk they are so used to the condition that they consider it normal and believe that everyone hears the same ringing noises they do.

On the other hand, a child may have the opposite reaction and decide that he or she is the only one that hears noises like that. A child like this may be reluctant to share what they see as evidence that they are different. The child may even become somewhat withdrawn because of their ringing ears.

A child should be capable of understanding an explanation of ringing sound he or she hears. Once they are able to do this, it will be much easier to explain that there is nothing to be ashamed of. Sometimes, though, the child will not be inclined to tell anyone about their symptoms. That is when the parent and other responsible adults must be aware of the child's behaviors. The child, like any adult with ringing ears, may show poor concentration and attention. The child may be restless. He or she may not be able to maintain focus on any one thing for very long. For these reasons, the child will probably do poorly in school. Also like adults with ringing ears, a child with tinnitus may suffer from insomnia. With all these symptoms going on, it will be a wonder if the child doesn't fall into depression, and he or she might.

Tinnitus in children is caused by the same factors that cause tinnitus in adults. It can be present at birth. It can be a warning of impending hear loss, or it can accompany hearing loss. An infection of the middle ear and also wax buildup in the child's ear can cause a temporary tinnitus. Deafness is also a cause of ringing ears in young children.

If your child tells you about ringing ears, you must listen. As with anyone, the ear noises may be the symptom of a serious or permanent problem. If they are, it is essential the treatment begins right away. Your child will thank you for it.
